Changing Perceptions

Saturday May 14, 2011 made my 3 week mark since my Big Chop! And to my surprise, not only did the length of my hair change drastically, my husband’s attitude did as well! He hasn’t been the most supportive in my decision to go natural…honestly speaking he was down right against it. But for what ever reason, he has had a change of heart and I couldn’t be happier! Yayyyy!!!

The first week and a half I co-washed everyday trying to find the right product for me. I used mousse and gel, Taliah Waajid (Curly Curl Cream), and Kinky Curly. Each product gave a different affect, but none was the look or feel that I was hoping for. Until I found a moisturizer called Body Look. I apply this to my hair and I grab pieces of hair and I twirl it around my finger…I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this LOOK and it is the softest my hair has been since being natural…the product has mink oil in it.

Good Bye Crunchy, Hard, White flaked hair…HELLOOOOO Moisturized, Soft, Shiny Hair!! I no longer have to freak out if someone touches my hair because of the texture change, all I have to do now is twist it back up!

Hi Everyone, I'm Quirky Coils and I have gone natural 3 times in the last 6 years. The first time I was forced because of a bad perm, the second by choice and I transitioned until my perm was completely gone. I ALWAYS relapse and take the easy way out and resort back to relaxing my hair. This time is different; on April 23, 2011 I did the "BIG CHOP"! Not to sound cliché but it was the most liberating decision of my life. I didn’t know what to expect, how I would look and what others reaction would be, but for the 1st time, I didn’t care! Going natural is something that I’ve always contemplated, tried but never did I FULLY COMMIT. The last few years of my life have been a journey about learning who I am, what I love, what I like and what I want. It’s been the most amazing time in my life, now its time for one of the major attractions of my journey of life…learning to love me in MY NATURAL EXISTENCE!
I am ready for this healthier way of living. I am ready to continue to be the controller of my life in spite of the disapproval. I feel that we should be able to be our true selves (nappy, curly, straight) and still be loved. I will no longer live my life based on some one else’s way of thinking. The noise of their opinions’ will not drown my inner voice. Thanks for taking the time out to view My Natural Truth…NO LYE!
