Castor Oil Benefits for Hair

I started a 3 month Castor Oil Challenge on http://www.facebook.com/MyNaturalTruthNoLye . Personally I am going to do a pre-poo or add it with my deep conditioner. I will also begin using it mixed with the other oils I currently use (jojoba, coconut, olive, and vitamin e). I’m really excited about it. You should join us in the challenge. 3 months will pass with or without using it so why not…it may make a difference!

Here's some information I found on http://www.castoroilhome.com/castor-oil-hair-growth-treatment
What Are the Benefits of Castor Oil for Hair Growth?

Regular castor oil use on your hair’s roots and scalp will help:
  1. Increase hair growth
  2. Thicken hair that is starting to thin out
  3. Reduce and prevent hair damage
  4. Eliminate dry hair
  5. Make the hair fuller and shinier
  6. Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp
  7. Prevents dry scalp
  8. Boost your hair’s overall health

How Do You Use Castor Oil?
Here are the common step-by-step techniques for using castor oil in hair loss:
  1. Using your fingertips, apply high quality castor oil to your roots and scalp.
  2. Make sure that you distribute the oil evenly on the scalp.
  3. Do your best to avoid the oil fro getting into your hair as its thick consistency may be hard to wash out.
  4. After applying it to your scalp, cover your hair with a plastic cap and wrap it in a towel.
  5. Let the oil stay in your hair for at least 15 to 20 minutes or allow it to set overnight.
  6. Wash it out with shampoo after to remove the castor oil.
  7. Do this once a week for 6-8 weeks to see the results.
Depending on your preference, you can also mix the oil with other oils (i.e. grape seed) to eliminate the super-thick consistency and unpleasant scent of castor oil.

Protective Styling

As you all know I was growing extremely agitated with my hair and contemplating a perm, so I decided that it was time for a weave…excuse me protective style.  I was trying to find someone to do it but I was so frustrated that I taught myself to braid and I sewed in my own tracks…YAAAAYYY ME!! I'm pretty excited about it… mind you the hair was very cheap so it may shed completely by Friday (LOL) but next time I'll spend more money since I know I can do it.

Moral of the Story: If you want it bad enough you can do anything!!

So now I'm going to try my best to protect my hair until April 23, 2012...which will mark my 1 year Hairversary!! Wish me Luck...I'll keep you guys posted on my styles!

Dare Yourself to Be Daring!

I’ve always dealt with different stereotypes and labeling of me. Some labels were  great descriptions, others were fabricated and some were just plain crazy.  At one time I allowed the views of others to rule the way I lived and what I showed to outsiders.   Most people automatically assume that since you look a certain way, You must also act a certain way…and this couldn’t be further from the truth.  Not only do people put limitations on how they think your personality is…they also try to limit what you should and shouldn’t wear.
For years I’ve been limited to the stereotype that dark women shouldn’t wear bright colors, bright lipstick , certain patterns etc.  But since embarking upon my natural hair journey I have learned to love myself in a different light! I feel that I can do anything! It has given me the courage to try things that I never would have before.  I no longer feel boxed into this dark girls only area….and I’m loving it!!!

My Natural Truth...No Lye

Hi Everyone, I'm Quirky Coils and I have gone natural 3 times in the last 6 years. The first time I was forced because of a bad perm, the second by choice and I transitioned until my perm was completely gone. I ALWAYS relapse and take the easy way out and resort back to relaxing my hair. This time is different; on April 23, 2011 I did the "BIG CHOP"! Not to sound cliché but it was the most liberating decision of my life. I didn’t know what to expect, how I would look and what others reaction would be, but for the 1st time, I didn’t care! Going natural is something that I’ve always contemplated, tried but never did I FULLY COMMIT. The last few years of my life have been a journey about learning who I am, what I love, what I like and what I want. It’s been the most amazing time in my life, now its time for one of the major attractions of my journey of life…learning to love me in MY NATURAL EXISTENCE!
I am ready for this healthier way of living. I am ready to continue to be the controller of my life in spite of the disapproval. I feel that we should be able to be our true selves (nappy, curly, straight) and still be loved. I will no longer live my life based on some one else’s way of thinking. The noise of their opinions’ will not drown my inner voice. Thanks for taking the time out to view My Natural Truth…NO LYE!
