Castor Oil Benefits for Hair

I started a 3 month Castor Oil Challenge on http://www.facebook.com/MyNaturalTruthNoLye . Personally I am going to do a pre-poo or add it with my deep conditioner. I will also begin using it mixed with the other oils I currently use (jojoba, coconut, olive, and vitamin e). I’m really excited about it. You should join us in the challenge. 3 months will pass with or without using it so why not…it may make a difference!

Here's some information I found on http://www.castoroilhome.com/castor-oil-hair-growth-treatment
What Are the Benefits of Castor Oil for Hair Growth?

Regular castor oil use on your hair’s roots and scalp will help:
  1. Increase hair growth
  2. Thicken hair that is starting to thin out
  3. Reduce and prevent hair damage
  4. Eliminate dry hair
  5. Make the hair fuller and shinier
  6. Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp
  7. Prevents dry scalp
  8. Boost your hair’s overall health

How Do You Use Castor Oil?
Here are the common step-by-step techniques for using castor oil in hair loss:
  1. Using your fingertips, apply high quality castor oil to your roots and scalp.
  2. Make sure that you distribute the oil evenly on the scalp.
  3. Do your best to avoid the oil fro getting into your hair as its thick consistency may be hard to wash out.
  4. After applying it to your scalp, cover your hair with a plastic cap and wrap it in a towel.
  5. Let the oil stay in your hair for at least 15 to 20 minutes or allow it to set overnight.
  6. Wash it out with shampoo after to remove the castor oil.
  7. Do this once a week for 6-8 weeks to see the results.
Depending on your preference, you can also mix the oil with other oils (i.e. grape seed) to eliminate the super-thick consistency and unpleasant scent of castor oil.

From a Wash-n-Go to a Twist Out

This is my same hair from the previous post. It's a week later and my hair is still going strong! I did a twist out on it twice this week and my hair has looked different every day this week with minimal maintenance. My hair has done so well on my vacation to Los Angeles, I'm thinking about not getting a weave for the new year.

Wash And Go...I Think Not

One of the top hairstyles that most naturals wear is a Wash-N-Go...am I one of them?? Unfortunately I Am Not. I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that if a person is natural they can automatically do a wash and go. Let me be the 1st person to tell you "A wash-n-go is not for everyone!" Some things are meant to be in their rare form and others aren't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm not happy with the hair God has given me, because I am...but I'm even happier about what my hair can do once manipulated.
The term 'Patience is a Virtue' can be applied to so many situations, the one situation that I've seem to have mastered patience with is my hair. A little manipulation and alot of TLC can go a very long way. Below are pics of me fresh out the shower, hair still soaked...and pics of what my hair looks like after I've applied my gel or moisturizer...depending on my style of choice.

So don't have your mind so set on being able to wash-n-go that you allow your hair in its "natural state" to make you perm it. Spend some time with your hair, get to know it, you never know what the outcome could be. You could be missing out on something amazing!

Protective Styling

As you all know I was growing extremely agitated with my hair and contemplating a perm, so I decided that it was time for a weave…excuse me protective style.  I was trying to find someone to do it but I was so frustrated that I taught myself to braid and I sewed in my own tracks…YAAAAYYY ME!! I'm pretty excited about it… mind you the hair was very cheap so it may shed completely by Friday (LOL) but next time I'll spend more money since I know I can do it.

Moral of the Story: If you want it bad enough you can do anything!!

So now I'm going to try my best to protect my hair until April 23, 2012...which will mark my 1 year Hairversary!! Wish me Luck...I'll keep you guys posted on my styles!

Hair MisHap

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I had a hair breakdown! It took me forever to get myself together. And when I say forever I'm not exaggerating....it got to the point that I was like...however it looks I'll go with it. I was even contemplating a perm (holds head down in shame)

The style was so bad my friend said I was channeling George Washington LOL. O well, I rocked it yesterday like I thought it was hot and I actually got complaints on it (go figure).

Weigh in...
