Dare Yourself to Be Daring!

I’ve always dealt with different stereotypes and labeling of me. Some labels were  great descriptions, others were fabricated and some were just plain crazy.  At one time I allowed the views of others to rule the way I lived and what I showed to outsiders.   Most people automatically assume that since you look a certain way, You must also act a certain way…and this couldn’t be further from the truth.  Not only do people put limitations on how they think your personality is…they also try to limit what you should and shouldn’t wear.
For years I’ve been limited to the stereotype that dark women shouldn’t wear bright colors, bright lipstick , certain patterns etc.  But since embarking upon my natural hair journey I have learned to love myself in a different light! I feel that I can do anything! It has given me the courage to try things that I never would have before.  I no longer feel boxed into this dark girls only area….and I’m loving it!!!

Popping My Cherry......

I am Ms. Tee, the other half of Curlfriends. Tasha aka QuirkyCoils, one of my favorite gal pals ordered me to pop my blogging cherry tonight, so here goes....

This is my 2nd and hopefully last natural hair journey. My first natural journey was over a decade ago, when there weren't hair care products geared towards natural hair care and stylists discouraged natural hair because of inexperience and sheer laziness. I ended up relaxing my hair 6 months after my big chop because I didn't know what to do with it. Let's face it, there was no YouTube and I didn't have the support of a 'curlfriend' to encourage me through my journey.

I recently decided to give natural hair another chance because of the plethora of natural hair care products available and also because I was simply tired of wearing a perm. I also love the versatility of natural hair. My last perm was around mid-April and I did the proverbial big chop on 6/16 because I was tired of having two different textures fight on top of my head. Can we say "birds nest"? (lol) Anywho, the bond between Tasha and I became closer when we realized we were embarking upon the same journey. I swear, since we both realized we were "going natural", we've updated each other daily on all things natural. We religiously email/text/call regarding products we love/hate, pics of natural hairstyles we want to achieve, our favorite youtube links, and hair care regimens. I'm sure you get the idea by now, which was the driving force behind curlfriends. It's our mission to share our resources, ideas, tips, and experience about natural haircare as we continue our journey. We welcome you to join us and come along for the ride.

You Never Know Until You Try

OMG!! Imagine my excitement when I picked out my hair to put in a weave ponytail and I had a puff of my own that was in my opinion BEAUTIFUL!! Everyone at work thought that I had a piece on and wanted to touch it. I’m soo proud of the growth of my hair. I had no idea it had gotten so long because I keep it compact and curly.

Moral of the story: Don’t rule something out before you try it. You never know what you could be missing out on!
Here are a few pics of it.

Twirling...Normal, Habit or Insane???

It's been 3 months since my big chop...i'm finally use to my hair and now I cant stay out of it. Will this cause problems?

Frizz is the Biz!!

This post if from May 20, 2011...
Ok, let me start off by saying…I’m a product whore (permed hair or natural hair)! But I decided to try the Twisted Sister Conditioner (Frizz Fighter) And it really works!! The down side is with my hair being so short, I think I prefer it with the frizz because it gives it more definition! My hair is entirely too neat without frizz! So I think Frizz is the Biz!! But if you disagree Twisted Sister Conditioner is the perfect product for you. But if you like thick creams, you may not like it, its not real thick at all, but its inexpensive and can be found at Walgreen’s.

Can it Be...Me Dandruff Free??

I have suffered with dandruff for as long as I could remember, and not small flaky dandruff…I’m talking scalp peeling, shoulder rising, is that healthy dandruff. All my life I’ve heard "That’s growing dandruff, and that’s why your hair grows so fast." I’ve been to dermatologist after dermatologist, tried every kind of tar shampoo, dandruff shampoo and medicated shampoo around and to no avail the dandruff NEVER went away. But here I am 3 ½ weeks into my ALL NATURAL HAIR journey and I have absolutely NO DANDRUFF! At first I thought it was a fluke…But I haven’t washed or co-washed my hair since Friday and this is what my scalp looks like…
YAAAAAAYYYYY ME!!
